Many students waste their holidays. Therefore, libraries should open for longer hours so that students can read more, and this will help them to pass.

  • On “Therefore, libraries should open…”A conclusion needs a reason first. What is the link to the sentence before it?
  • On “pass”Pass what? Name the examination and the skill.
A sample of how marking notes look. The paragraph is invented for illustration.

Built around the five sections of the WASSCE English paper, with a guided page for each of 18 kinds of writing, and feedback you can act on the same week.

The one who asks questions does not lose his way.

How a week works

Every week follows the same four steps. Choose one to see what it holds.

Learn

Each week has a topic, and each topic comes as a lesson to read at your own pace, on a phone or a computer.

  • Slides, handouts and manuals gathered by week.
  • Topics follow the English Language curriculum and the five sections of the WASSCE paper.
  • What the Chief Examiners say goes wrong in each topic, so you know what to watch for.
A week, in short

One topic. One lesson pack. One quiz that goes with it. Nothing else to hunt for.

Opening a lesson is not the same as learning it, so the portal never counts a download as progress.

What is inside

Every part answers one question: what should this student practise next?

Weekly lesson packs

Each week's topic comes as a lesson to read, with the practice that goes with it.

Practice that gives reasons

Multiple-choice quizzes show why an answer is right, not only that it is. Mistakes come back later in a mixed set.

Writing with a reader

Write essays, letters, speeches, reports and more on a page that shows where each feature belongs. Send the work and get a teacher's notes and questions back.

What the examiners say

The common mistakes in six years of Chief Examiners' reports for Ghana, turned into things to check in your own work.

Words that stay

A personal word notebook, a word of the week and short vocabulary games.

Oral English

Stress, sounds and listening practice for the oral paper.

Know exactly what to work on to get better at English.

Most students practise English without knowing whether they’re practising the right thing. They do another past question or another essay, and the same mistakes keep coming back.

I teach English to senior high students and academic writing to university students, and I see the same pattern at both levels. Students don’t need more practice, they need the right practice. I study how language really works, so I can explain why a sentence fails and not just mark it wrong.

That’s why I built hubteacher. Every lesson, quiz and feedback tool is designed to answer one question: what should this student practise next?

What you can expect

  • Clear explanations in plain language
  • Feedback that shows you the mistake and how to fix it
  • A next step after every quiz, so you’re never guessing

Classes. Online English classes for students across Ghana are being planned. They are not open for enrolment yet. Get in touch to hear when they open.
